What is a Founder's Day?
"Founder's Day" would be a holiday that celebrates the person who established something. A day celebrating the anniversary of the establishment of a society or organization, on which its founder is honored.
why is Founder's Day is important?
Founder's Day is important because Founder's Day honors and commemorates the building's and the founder's history. Founders' Day is traditionally a very important day in the university calendar when members of the university community - students, governors, staff, and friends - meet to commemorate those who founded the school and who have left behind resources for the school's development.
Each year Savannah State University pauses to recognize those who have served the school and made its foundation stronger. The annual observance celebrates the history of the institution and those who have contributed to its success.

Savannah State University is the first public Black University of Georgia and the first institution of higher learning in the city of Savannah.
The school was established on November 26, 1890, as a result of the Second Morrill Land Grant Act, which mandated that southern and border states develop land-grant colleges for black citizens.
The first president was Mr. Richard R. Wright ( 1891 - 1921 ). The President by now is Cynthia Robinson Alexander, J.D. Savannah State University has been twenty presidents.
Upon the creation of the University System of Georgia (USG) in 1932, the college became one of the first members of the system and its name was changed to Georgia State College. Its name changed again in 1950 to Savannah State College, and the institution received initial accreditation from the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools (SACS) in 1955. The USG Board of Regents elevated the college to university status in 1996 and renamed the institution Savannah State University.
